As you may have heard there have been some new cases reported of Canine Influenza (H3N2). The good news is there is a vaccine available.
How is the virus spread:
The virus is airborne and is commonly spread when a dog is coughing and sneezing. The virus can be spread through the air up to 20 feet away.
What are the symptoms:
It is important to note that dogs can be carrying the virus and not show any symptoms. The most common symptoms are coughing and can last up to 3 weeks. Any signs of respiratory distress should be evaluated by your veterinarian right away.
Who is at risk:
Any dogs that are spending time where they will be in direct contact with other dogs should be vaccinated. This includes dogs that go to dog parks, groomers and boarding facilities.
